Water transfer to Balzac development appealed
On September 26, 2007, Alberta Environment approved a water allocation transfer to Municipal District (MD) of Rocky View from the Western Irrigation District. This transfer is to allow the MD to take up to 2,220,268 cubic metres of water annually from the Bow River through the irrigation works of the Western Irrigation District (WID). Westridge Utilities Inc., who filed a statement of concern during the public comment period, alleges Alberta Environment did not review or respond to the company's statement of concern and is thus appealing the transfer. A meeting with the participants and the Environmental Appeal Board on December 17, 2007 at the Calgary Delta Airport Hotel will determine whether Westridge Utilities can be considered "directly affected" by the transfer. If the company is deemed directly affected, it can move forward to appeal the transfer to Environmental Appeal Board. The December 17th meeting is open to the public for viewing only.
