Horseshoe Lands - A new community in a closed basin

A new community of up to 5500 residents and over 2900 residential, commercial, and community facilities by 2022 is under negotiation for Alberta's Bow Valley. The Horseshoe Lands development would sit north of the TransCanada Highway 1 and Kananaskis Highway 40 interchange.

This development has faced many significant challenges, not the least of which is water supply (in a closed basin) and wastewater treatment.

Bow Riverkeeper has tracked this proposed development over the past several months. The following articles cut through the often mystifying world of zonings and hearings, and help bring the water issues to light.

Of particular interest is the possibility that this development could lead to a new regional water supply and wastewater treatment system that could spur additional development in the area.
