Synopsis

Bow Riverkeeper's new film follows the journey of three "Southern Alberta has water scarcity issues to confront. This film examines the problems and possible solutions."

people and a dog as they paddle the entire 650 km length of the Bow River. Beginning with a mountaineering expedition to the Bow's source on the Wapta Icefield, the Bow Riverkeeper voyageurs follow the "emerald thread" as it pushes from mountains to foothills, into Calgary, and onto the great expanse of Alberta's prairies. Along the way, they discover great beauty, and the value of the majestic Bow.

 Traveling through dramatically changing scenery over thirty days, the paddlers explore and learn about emerging pressures on the Bow, and possible solutions to ensure economic and ecological sustainability.

The Big Bow Float features interviews with pre-eminent ecological experts, including David Schindler (University of Alberta) and Brian Keating (Calgary Zoo). They share enlightened comments reflecting the most recent science on the importance of adequate river flows for sustainable river health.
